what you think is more important than what you follow

Why I believe these religions are foolish:- They don't update with time, the rules are constantly the same. For example, although christian faiths have slightly improved their stance towards homosexuality, they are still against it and studies have shown the majority of practicing Christians would not want their child to be homosexual. Islam and Hinduism are highly against homosexuality, with the countries where these religions are majority having laws against it.
- If there was a God, wouldn't he want us all to be as one, rather than have separate religions?
- Some people follow the rules of the religion more than their own thoughts. For example, Hinduism says you should not overeat, overdrink or over indulge in sex, but I believe if you think doing those things are OK, you should do them! I dislike religions controlling free will.
- They have caused wars and conflict.
- You should focus on yourself, rather than others. The three religions I listed have holy books which talk about other people too much (in my opinion). The reason I don't think Buddhism is stupid is that it's about focusing on yourself.
- Many religious practicers force their religion onto their children. Luckily for me, although my mum is Catholic, my dad is/was Buddhist so they didn't force either on me! I have a friend from India, a country where 80% of the country are Hindu, who waited until he was 19 (out of fear) to tell his parents he was agnostic; he said it was worse than coming out as bisexual.
- They use scare mongering, telling you if you don't follow the rules you will go to hell. Let's keep the scare mongering on blogs and in newspapers!
What I believe would be more ration, as opposed to religion:
- Teaching children about God/s, and telling them they can believe in one God, multiple Gods, or none at all. In addition, teach children about spirituality, something I was never taught when I was young.
- Teach children they don't have to fit in with any religion, not even their own families. Teach them that their own thoughts and beliefs are more important than any religions. I believe teaching children this at a young age will be beneficial in the future.
- Teach teenagers about religious extremists, from ALL religions, and allow them to see that although the news filter what they show you, and often only show attacks by Islam and similar religions, that "Western" religions have extremists too. This just makes them smarter people and would hopefully encourage them to not want to be part of a religion.
- Teach people that the expectations, norms and values of society are constantly changing, and so must your attitudes. If we begun teaching young people this, hopefully it would help them help their parent's and bring them into the 21st century.
- Make people question a higher power. Would it/they want the world split into religions, would they want us fighting over religion, would they care if somebody was attracted to someone of the same sex, would they encourage racism?
